The joy I receive in creating a new painting is in choosing from the variety of subjects that intrigue me, whether they are the ancient walls of a Chinese city, a winter walk in Central Park, the beautiful, sunny cities of the Mediterranean, or children playing on the beach. I draw my inspiration from the many places to which I’ve traveled, translating these experiences into a kind of “painted diary.” I use photography to prepare the way for my next paintings.
There is an endless pool of places from which to paint. I try to express my emotional response to them through the colors and style I adopt for each of my works. Above all, I hope the viewer will experience some of the same awe and pleasure I feel from both the everyday and unusual spots in the world.
